Endless love and respect to all friends who ripped a set, booked a show, and came out to support. Here’s to a New Year and greater victories to come.
JUST DAYS AWAY…
Getting excited, too many reasons:
* Last huge bash for Paragon and Castlevania, it’s been a totally fucked up ride
* First Shallow Waters and Kites show in years, (not to be confused with Mark Lord). Who knows if it’ll happen again… certainly not for Shallow Waters
* First local Shawn Greenlee and Diagram A show in a while, especially in Olneyville. Welcome these vets back!
* Final sets for Night Burger and Apollo Creed under their current names, what kind of explosions will these freaks kill it with?
* First Providence appearances for Endless Humiliation (members of Air Conditioning), Boyzone, Secret Boyfriend, Positiveland, Five Mask, Motiv-A, and Caves Caverns.
*Witch Club Diner open on Friday night, will they serve those delicious hand-cut fries again?
*Friday night dance party with minimal house/techno titans Lack, Outmode, & Night Burger.
“My heart is beating hard, and my sweat is running fast”
This will also be the last Providence show for Time Ghost for a long time.
Once again, for more info and directions please write a friendly email to adam[dot]morosky[at]gmail[dot]com

TIMEGHOST LIVE REVIEW: ELIJAH FORREST (terrors, lolly gesserit)
Recently unearthed this live review from the honorable Elijah Forrest, whose projects include Terrors, Lolly Gesserit, and the immaculate Cavelife Label:
“…Impeccable the same night was Timeghost from Providence. A solo unit using equal and overlapping parts cutup noise, blown out fractured vocals, propulsive industrial beats and blurry guttural synthesizer exploration. He played in the tight space beneath Lifers’ tower with a set of voltage-controlled lights that flicker and swell in brightness according to the volume and density of his music, which is really dynamic. He made a long, passionate speech which was rendered almost inaudible by a vibrato synth processing and used a light-theremin retainer/bit device which responded to the flare ups and flickering of his lights as he writhed around, wide-open-smile sensual creep style, caressing and hanging from the wood frame of Lifers’ tower.”
I highly recommend catching Lolly Gesserit live, following his blog “Switched on Abandon” at http://8marchen.blogspot.com/ and checking out any of his visually stunning Cavelife releases. But most of all, I’m compelled to rave about the Terrors LP “Lagan Qord” which I have been continuously flipping and flipping and flipping ad nauseam with the most beautiful nausea one can experience, like stepping foot in the house you grew up in years after strangers have made it their home. It feels warm and vulnerable, almost sentimental but then it turns a mirror on you and feels utterly alien, like the emotional throws of gloaming hallucinations. These are mostly solo guitar and vocal song forms that sound to originate from another time either long past or long after some sort of collapse. Not once does it ever feel like phony nu-folk indie garbage, rather it feels as if it’s bathed in a forgotten tradition, then stumbles and slips into a grimy nebula of Eternal Music. The instrumental and drone works on the record shimmer like daytime nap dreams under hot sunlight, never seeming to be an ornament or gimmick. This record is a testament to a mature body of work that is a rare gem amongst the barrage of current releases and should not go unrecognized.

FRIDAY THE 16TH: PHI PHENOMENA FEST HITS PROVIDENCE

“PHI-PHENOMENA ON WHEELS marked the first effort to take this festival on the road. Approximately 10 bands traveled from city to city in a RV from September 6-17, 2001, some groups were drawn from the local scenes of each city. A few local bands did full-length sets as opening acts, then followed by 10 bands in an hour afterwards.”
Turning on the projector around 9:30pm for Fischer’s movie “Do Not Peer Into Void”, and Time Ghost kicks it off at 10pm on the fuckin’ nose, with or without a crowd because there are enough bastards playing this show to fill the room already.
If you’re a night stalker, come early… come late: dancing and drinking until we run out of liquor and flesh. Freedom this free ain’t free, so pay the fee.

details:
MEAGER SUNLIGHT
The immaculate minimal techno/retro house duo of Jeremy Harris (Lazy Magnet) and Daryl Seever (Beeman Glow). Recently touring and releasing a split LP on Hot Releases/More/Roofless Records called “Seasons of Nudity”. Live MIDI mastery; intricate, dark & moving. Song inspired by a story by Lovecraft, “danceable” is an understatement.
THEE SOURCE OV FAWNATION
The vocal electronic music of Bryxan Amsterdam and Pær Svn. Bryxan Amsterdam performs solo as Technicolor Yawn/Dawn/Fawn and is an ex-member of Werewolves. Pær Svn is the creator of the ritual drone group Paintings for Animals and founded the Seattle Occultural Music Festival.
THEM, THERE
The Baltimore-based collaborative duo of Violet and Nightjar. Their work has been described as “haunting guitar tinged drone mixed with what sounds like field recordings from a cold and distant island” (Dead Formats). They are recent transplants from Olympia, WA where they co-curated events at the Swamp Haus, and helped organize the Olympia Experimental Music Festival. Both Them, There and Nightjar contributed to the recent Hanged Man compilation.
MONGREL
Brand new moniker for well-established local, Mindy Stock (What Cheer? Brigade, Jelen). Beautifully arranged electronic pop songs with gothic glimmers, birthed in the hallowed tombs of Witch Club. Most exciting new band, don’t miss it.
